Horrifying food in a frightening restaurant

By Maaike Olde Monnikhof ©

It was a fierce and rainy night, when a just married couple found them selves on the doorstep of a horrifying American restaurant in the middle of Spain. The rain poured down like parasites and slugs. Not knowing if the pair should enter the creepy restaurant in the back alley incase they would by poisoned by the revolting food or get a heart attack at just looking at the stuff. After a long soaking wet wait under a leaking roof they took the risk of entering the awful place.

When after a tremendous lot of hesitation the pair finally chose the least creepy corner to sit. They sat on a bronze uneven table and spiky chairs. All around them painted on the walls were paintings of green, terrifying goblins. The pair sat there for two hours waiting for the storm to pas, but it did not!

Suddenly out of the darkness appeared a tiny dwarf with a long beard and a pointy, unwashed face. The dwarf stood there staring at the pair, who were staring strangely back at him in fright. Finally the dwarf chuckled in a high pitched scream, and asked what they wanted to drink and eat. After a long odd silence the girl finally said that they would have a cup of coffee and the goulash. Before another word could be said the strange dwarf had vanished in the darkness.

About an hour of waiting in fear they suddenly herd shouts of horror and pain and a large chopping knife. The pair who were now more terrified then ever before, sprang up from their chairs and ran in full speed towards the door. To their amazement the door was nailed shut, and they were unable to escape. They turned to run to the stained glass window, but nearly bashed in to the weird dwarf standing there unexpectitly with two bowls of green slime and two cups of what looked like, live mud.

The dwarfs face was no longer a sick green, but was now as red as a red-hot coal. In anger the dwarf smashed down the frightening food on the table and clapped his dry hands together. The pair were suddenly raised in to the misty air by a huge, green hand which belonged to an overgrown termite. The giant threw them down on to the spiky seats and chained them down with rusted steal chains. Like the dwarf had vanished so did the giant.

The dwarfs face as quick as lightning changed back to being sick green in colour. He placed the food on the table at which the pair sat in shock, like nothing at all had happened. Once more he vanished.

The pair stared at the food in amazement, but little did they know that the food was staring back at them.

The girl who was more daring then her husband picked up the skeleton fork that was placed at the left of the bowl and pocked in to the green mush. A SCREAM, A SHOUT and the girl was on the floor in a state of shock. The food and the coffee both jumped out of their bowls and cups and ran out of the door which was suddenly released. As soon as the food had run out the rain stopped the sun came up and the girl regained consciousness. The pair amazingly found them selves in a warm, cozy little cottage in Paris.

What happened to the horrible American restaurant in the middle of Spain, the dwarf, the giant and the food no body really knows. How the food came to life and what it was and how the pair suddenly found them selves in Paris is still a mystery today.

A couple of years later a new just married couple discovered on a fierce and rainy night the horrifying restaurant in the middle of Spain………….!

MAAIKE'S WEIRD AND WONDERFUL MONTHLY LETTER Envlop2.wmf (9008 bytes)

Beijing, 23 December 1997

Dear all,

This is my first Web Site so I intend to make it as interesting as possible by changing the letters each month which are about my life in China and all the things bad and good and other stuff. We’ve been here about 4 months although at first I did not like it here at all I slowly began to feel more at home.

Let me start to tell you about my point of view of China.

The city is a very crowded and noisy place to be. When I walk through the streets all eyes turn and watch my family and me. Which I find very irritating. My little sister is well loved by all Chinese. They try to communicate with her but get no reply even though my little sister has Chinese lessons she can not understand or speak just yet.

The traffic in Beijing is very crowded and a great big mess. The cars do not stop and wait for the stoplights and they don’t stop for each other and they don’t even stop for bikers or people on foot. So if you are planning to cross the street walking, the smartest thing to do is to walk with a large group of people because then you have a lesser chance to get run over. That is why I prefer the car. Speaking about cars you come by the most weird looking cars or things on the road. Like motor bikes that look like tricycles with three wheels and a roof and you can see the old fashioned motor bikes with the extra seat next to it. You can also see funny looking horse carriages on the highway. And because of all these cars and other things there is so much pollution. But for the rest it is nice.

Okay now we’ve had that stuff, now I’ll tell about where and how I live.

Luckily I live outside the city where it is not crowded, not so smelly and not all eyes turn and look. We live in large compound called River Garden. I suppose it is called river because it is next to a river "which looks disgusting" and I do not know what the word Garden is for, because there is no garden anywhere, just a little in front of the houses. We were lucky enough to get a house instead of a flat. Our house is quite big its got 1 large living room, 1 dining room, 1 TV room (even though we got a TV in the living room as well), 3 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms and 2 balconies and one of those balconies is mine because it attaches to my bedroom. I’m happy this house is not falling apart like the house we had in South Africa.

So now you know about everything there is to know about Beijing and my house. Now I will tell you about my friends and school. I promise not to make it too long. Because there’s not much to tell. Only that it is a huge school and that you have to walk across half the world to get somewhere. E.g. like a French class, to get there I first have to go down a flight of stairs then walk around a basket ball field because we are not allowed to walk across it. Then I have to walk up 4 flights of stairs and then I’m there. After the class I have to do everything again but then backwards. I like the school a lot but I know that I will never get the school I had in South Africa again because that was the most beautiful school ever.

I have many friends and I’m very happy to have them. Some of their names are Nora, Wendy, Quirine, Megan, Nina, Andrea, Susan and they are all very nice. But I still miss my friends in South Africa a lot, oh yea and my friend who is now in Columbia.

Christmas is coming and most people have gone away but we stay. The people that have gone drop their pets of at our house or give them in to our care. At the moment we have to take care of 3 dogs, one of them is staying at our house and the other two at their own houses. We have to take care of three cats too and one of them belongs to me. I never knew that it takes so much work to care of a dog, so I prefer to have a cat.

So Christmas is nearly here and a lot of preparations have to be done. At our house most of them are done. My father (can you believe it) made new years cookies and I baked Christmas cookies. We had a lot of fun.

MERRY CHISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR     !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of love,

Maaike

P.S. I’m getting my own chat line soon so come and chat

Eyes as marbles so green,

Unlike any I've ever seen.

Fur so soft and long,

With him, nothing seems to go wrong.

At day all he does is sleep,

Warm and cosy he shall keep.

At night he stalks his fearful prey,

With a slash of his paw his prey will lay.

Over roof tops,

He does stroll.

His appearance,

Dwells within immortal soul.

For he is the most beautiful creature,

Of this world

He is the best feature.

For attention,

He does plead.

Upon our love,

He does feed.

Up against our legs he will walk,

And purrs,

As though he wants to talk.

Our cat is a member of the family,

He is the one

That set us free.

Forget him we will never,

He will stay in our minds forever.
